What is a good HYROX time?

Clients ask me this after almost every first race. The answer is simple: a good time is one you run with smart pacing and no wasted mistakes. Still, it helps to know the numbers so you can see where you stand.

Average HYROX times

An analysis of 700,000 HYROX results (BoxLife Magazine, September 2026) gives these medians. Median means half the field was faster and half was slower.

What time to aim for in your first HYROX

Don't set a time for your first race. Set three goals:

  1. Finish without stopping at the stations. Especially the sleds and wall balls.
  2. Run the first kilometres slower than you want to. Go out hard on the first two and you'll pay for it from station five.
  3. Pick up zero penalty minutes. Read the rules and the movement standards.

Nail those and the time takes care of itself. And at your second race you've got a clear number to beat.

Running between stations at HYROX Berlin
Running makes up roughly half of your total time

Where you lose the most time

  • Running. 8 km is a big chunk of your total time. 10 seconds faster per kilometre is 80 seconds at the finish.
  • Roxzone. The transitions between running and stations. Walk and catch your breath here and you lose minutes.
  • Sleds and wall balls. People stop on the sleds and take long breaks on wall balls.

How to improve your HYROX time

  • Train running under fatigue: 1 km at race pace straight after a station.
  • Add strength work twice a week so the sleds and lunges don't stop you.
  • Practise transitions: run right up to the station and leave it running, not walking.
  • In the last 4–6 weeks, do partial race simulations at race pace.

How to put that week together is in HYROX training: a sample training week. If you already race and want a faster time, the HYROX Competitor program is built for you.
