HYROX Race Hamburg 2025 – Sometimes It Just Doesn't Click

Preparation went excellently: training, recovery, pacing — everything was according to plan. The goal was to improve on our performance from the last race in Berlin. On paper it looked great. But sometimes race day reality shows a completely different side of things.
Right from the start I felt that today just wasn't going to be our day. My body simply didn't cooperate the way I had hoped. Even though my head wanted to go all-out, physically it just wasn't possible to maintain the pace. HYROX is relentless — eight kilometers of running and eight workouts, and nowhere can you hide.
Another factor that continues to limit me in these races is my weight and muscle mass — currently 114 kg. That kind of strength certainly has advantages in disciplines like sled pushes, wall balls or lunges, but on the flip side every extra kilo needs oxygen, and that quickly shows up in the pace of a HYROX race.
Despite all of this, Ria and I made it to the finish line. This time without a personal record, but with respect for the race and for each other.
Sometimes it just doesn't click — and that's part of the process. Every race is a lesson, and every setback is a step toward a better version of yourself.
We take Hamburg as an experience. We will go through everything, analyze it, adjust our training — and continue moving forward.
Our next stop: HYROX London — December 2025. New opportunity, new goal.
Sometimes it just doesn't work out. But we keep going.
