Sports nutrition

I'll help you improve your diet and lifestyle

How can you improve your performance?

An athlete's performance, and how far they can go in their sport, depends on several factors. Some can't be changed, like genetics, but others can. These include the intensity and consistency of training and, of course, the amount, regularity and quality of food.

The right, nutritionally balanced diet can raise and maximise performance in training and competition, and it affects the speed and quality of recovery too. An athlete needs “fuel” with the right balance of nutrients – protein, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and minerals – and “fluid”, meaning proper hydration. Recreational and elite athletes have different needs, but both need a specific nutrition approach because of their higher energy and nutrient demands.

So performance is also shaped by food quality, quantity and timing. Having the right energy stores available is important to keep energy high during exercise. Any lack of energy or nutrients would reduce an athlete's potential performance.

I'll guide you

The role of a sports nutrition coach is to give the athlete a balanced nutrition plan during rest periods, but also before, during and after training, in race preparation and during recovery. Building the right cutting plan within weight categories matters too.

As part of coaching I build programs around the specific sport, training intensity and quality, current fitness, personal eating habits and genetic predispositions. I focus on regular eating throughout the day and hydration before, during and after exercise. Each program is built individually around the needs of each athlete. A varied diet, with supplements where needed, should cover the athlete's energy requirements.
